Android and iOS have both begun to invest in declarative UI frameworks as their UI frameworks of the future. Compose and SwiftUI have many similarities that allow for a shared understanding of how to approach UI development, allowing each platform to learn from each other. At the New York Times we’ve leveraged this to have a common understanding of how we do UI development and be able to communicate across platforms and functions more easily. We will go through some examples on both platforms.

David is an Android developer on the Audio team at The New York Times. Prior to that, he built Android apps at Touchlab. He is passionate about learning, teaching, and fostering community.
