KMP is now stable. Google endorses KMP for sharing business logic. It's a great time for the technology.
As great as the technology is, applying it at scale, with teams, is difficult. There is little guidance. All new ecosystems go through this phase, where the raw tech meets reality. KMP needs to do the same.
In short: KMP is stable. Now it needs to mature.
This session will cover a staged approach to adopting KMP: Piloting, Iterating, and Scaling. Topics will include:
* Addressing team concerns (especially the iOS team)
* Picking tools and libraries for optimal dev ex
* Structuring team and git workflows to leverage KMP at scale
This session will focus strictly on native mobile teams using KMP with fully native UI on both platforms. Teams often struggle with this scenario for very specific reasons. The challenges and solutions are unique and specific.

Modern mobile and Android are a touch over 15 years old. Droidcon NYC 2024 is in its 10th year. Will we all look at some pictures? Of course! Maybe hear a few tips on running a conference.

Then, it’s time to look forward.

Tech trends come and go. Some burn hot, then disappear. Some become essential. The web is essential. Mobile is essential. Whatever happens with mobile technology, the idea that mobile won’t be as, or more essential, 15 years from now is nonsense.

How mobile is developed and delivered is a different question altogether. This will be a talk about near-term tech possibilities, but not what mobile might look like in 15 years. I could speculate, and I'd be wrong. It will be a talk about how this community can shape that future, starting now.

While the tech hype machine has hopped from one shiny concept to another, neither the web nor mobile has remained static. Far from it. We’re in a moment of change and opportunity. A very special moment for this community specifically. But the community is necessary to take advantage of it.
